Medical School Coming to Joplin

Joplin is soon to welcome a medical school, located at the former Mercy Hospital site, projected to open in fall of 2017 with an initial class of around 150 students. Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences has decided upon Joplin as an extension site for their medical school, realizing that the Joplin location will serve the entire four-state region. Increase in Enrollment at Missouri Southern State University

Missouri Southern State University continues to grow with an increase in enrollment for the Spring 2016 semester. The Fall 2015 semester saw a 3 percent increase in enrollment and the Spring semester is continuing this growth with a 4 percent increase. The University is also seeing an increase in the amount of credit hours that students are taking, jumping up 2.8 percent. The Joplin Homebuyers Assistance Program Is Nearing Its End

The Joplin Homebuyers Assistance Program, or J-HAP, has announced that it is coming to an end. On February 16th the program stated they are taking in 50 more applicants before they begin a first come first serve setup. Originally started by the City in 2013, the J-HAP program is designed to help single family homebuyer's after the May 2011 tornado. Aid is designated to down payments and/or closing costs on homes.
